4-H registration is open on 4-H Connect

The registration process for the year 4-H 2021-2022 begins August 15, 2021. All 4-H families, new and old, are encouraged to log in and register to become an official member of the 4- H.

As you begin your registration for the year, here are some tips on using 4-H Connect:

If you already have a profile, don’t create another!

If you’ve lost your email and password, call the county office so we can reset it for you.

An active membership will not be granted until the participation fee of $ 25.00 is paid on 4-H Connect!

You cannot register or participate in an event until your profile is active.

When re-enrolling for Year 4-H 2021-2022, be sure to update your address, phone number and email address.

If you are currently having problems signing up for the 4-H program, we recommend that you wait until September 1. The system has been updated and is currently having issues.

Do not wait until the last minute to register because after October 31 the cost drops to $ 30.

Rachel Hall has been a manager and volunteer with the Brown County 4-H Club for over 10 years. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments for colon cancer.

Brown County 4-H Chef Camp

Brown County 4-H FCH Coalition is hosting a Chiefs Camp. The camp will take place on Sunday, October 10 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the extension office. During the camp, you will learn more about the 4-H Food & Nutrition projects. Here are the topics that will be discussed:

Showcase of knowledge / My plate; Presentation / Interview of Food Show Dishes; Skills showcase.

Brown County 4-H Food Show

The Brown County 4-H Food Show is scheduled for October 24, 2021 at 3 p.m. at the Extension Office. If you are interested in participating, confirm your attendance before October 18th. Clover children are eligible to participate in the Brown County 4-H Food Show.

The theme for this year’s 4-H Food Show, Backyard BBQ. What’s your favorite meal at a barbecue in your backyard? Don’t be afraid to showcase your culinary skills by experimenting with flavors and dishes commonly found at a backyard barbecue. Summer isn’t the only time for a backyard barbecue.

Sometimes a backyard barbecue allows you to enjoy special dishes that you only see at a barbecue. The grill usually comes out and families have started to get together to experiment with different flavors. Now is the time for you to get creative with flavors and recipes commonly found at backyard barbecues. You might even want to try out some new kitchen equipment like an indoor grill or grill.

Remember, not all backyard barbecue dishes even need a grill. Many Backyard BBQ favorites can be prepared on the stovetop, in the oven, by no-cook methods, or using special equipment. Remember to keep proper nutrition and healthy preparation methods in mind when selecting your recipe.

Here are the categories for Food Show:

• Main Course – The main course is usually the heaviest, most filling and filling of a meal. In a multi-course meal, the main course is served alongside the main course and is the star course of the meal. The key ingredient is usually meat or another protein food, but they can contain other foods.

• Appetizer – Traditionally, an appetizer is a small dish or food that is eaten before the main course. When selecting recipes for this category, applicants should consider foods low in fat, sodium, and calories so as not to ruin the appetite.

• Side dishes – Side dishes are foods that are typically served with a main course or as an accompaniment to the main course. Suggested dishes may include salads, cooked vegetables, cooked fruits, pasta or rice dishes and / or combined vegetable dishes.

• Healthy Desserts – Healthy can always mean delicious when it comes to desserts. Dishes in this category should be served at the end of a meal or for special occasions. Participants should modify traditional recipes with healthy substitutes and consider MyPlate and dietary guidelines when selecting recipes for this category.

Livestock Coalition Meeting

The purpose of this coalition is to help strengthen the breeding program. The Livestock Coalition is responsible for developing workshops / clinics, the Brown County 4-H Project Show and other learning opportunities that will help young people develop in their project area.

If you are interested in being part of this coalition, please join us on October 5 at 5 p.m. at the Extension Office. Your ideas are welcome for improving the youth rearing program in Brown County.

Austin Barrow Show Rodeo Update

New for 2022, Rodeo Austin is proud to partner with the Texas Pork Producers Association to host an exclusive Texas Bred Barrow Show. All Barrows must be Texas Bred certified to compete.

4-H breeding projects

If you need help finding a 4-H breeding project such as lamb, goat, or pork for upcoming county and / or state shows, contact Nick Gonzales or Scott Anderson in the office. extension.

If you already have your breeding project and want agents to come, check your project, please contact the extension office to make an appointment.

Lamb, Goat and Pork County and State Validation

Now is the time to start preparing for the Brown County Youth Fair and major exhibitions. The most important step in doing this is to validate your animals. Lamb / goat validation will take place on October 16 at 8:00 a.m. and pig validation on November 13 at 8:00 a.m. at Brown County Youth Fair Barns.

There will be no county validation remedial day. If you are planning to attend the Brown County Youth Fair, you must make sure your pet is present on checkout day !! If you’ve ordered state labels and haven’t paid for them, come to the extension office as soon as possible. You must be registered in 4-H before the validation date.

Validation of heifers

If you present a heifer at a large breeding show that has not yet been validated by the state or has changed owners, it will need to be validated. Heifers participating only in the Brown County Youth Fair do not need to be validated.

Make sure you have the registration papers on hand during validation. Each heifer must have an identity document, either a mark or a tattoo. Please ensure that the tattoos / marks are made and legible before validation.

Dates to remember:

October 27 Physical validation from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Bob Clarks’ pens.

November 1 Deadline The original registration documents must be in the exhibitor’s name.

Veterinary science day camp

The Texas A&M AgriLife Veterinary Science Certificate Program would like to announce 2 new day camps coming October 14 and November 19 at the Texas 4-H Conference Center in Brownwood.

The October Day Camp is designed for students aged 14-18 who wish to gain experience in various work of veterinary science. Participants will acquire general skills in veterinary science and may possibly have these skills validated by a veterinarian. We will have a simulation competition on races and instruments to end our day.

The November camp is designed for students aged 11 to 13. These participants will learn about the veterinary science certificate program as well as the skills designed to prepare them to enter the veterinary clinic.
