Annual manufacture of 18 million home appliances on the agenda

TEHRAN — Iran’s manufacturing of home appliances is expected to reach 18 million appliances in the current Iranian calendar year (ending March 20, 2023), an official from the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade.

According to Mohsen Shokrollahi, director general of the household appliances bureau of the ministry, there are currently 220 active household appliance manufacturing units in the country which managed to produce 16.5 million sets of products in the previous year, reported. the IRIB.

Considering the data of the previous year, the manufacturing of the said products is expected to increase by 1.5 million sets (about 10%) in the current year.

Shokrollahi estimated the total value of the country’s home appliance exports in the previous Iranian calendar year at $300 million, saying, “With the new approach, we will increase last year’s exports and provide a strong support for the appliance industry by reducing tariffs on raw materials.

The official mentioned some of his ministry’s programs to support the domestic production of home appliances in the country and increase the rate of self-sufficiency in this industry, saying, “This year, we are pursuing an increase in both the quantity and the quality of the production of household appliances. ; in this regard, new plans have been drawn up by our office, so that national production in this sector increases and new investments have been made.

He further mentioned the important role of the home appliance industry in creating employment opportunities in the country and noted that there are currently 300,000 people working in this industry.

Shokrollahi also referred to the roadmap of the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade for the development of the country’s household appliances industry and said, “The roadmap for this industry was formulated in collaboration with the best think tanks and knowledge-based companies in the country.

According to data from the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade, the manufacturing of home appliances in Iran increased by 7.56% in the last Iranian calendar year 1400 (ending March 20), compared to the previous year.

In recent years, the Iranian government has followed a new strategy of supporting domestic production in order to neutralize the effects of US sanctions while reducing the economy’s dependence on oil revenues.

The home appliance sector has been one of the pioneers in this regard and, like many other areas, the production of home appliances has seen a significant increase over the past four years.
