THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Statistics are very important in formulating policies for the progress of the country, said District Collector Navjot Khosa. “Data has immense value in the modern world. Therefore, the quality and accuracy of the data is important,” she said.

She was speaking after the inauguration of a training program on the annual agricultural survey held at the district office of the Department of Economics and Statistics. The Department of Economics and Statistics’ annual agriculture survey helps the government design agricultural projects and welfare projects for farmers, Khosa said.

District Development Commissioner Vinay Goyal released the QR code of reports issued by the district office over the past four years. He asked staff members to also focus on data analysis. Employees from the district and taluk offices of the department participated in the training. Department Manager Sajeevu PP, Chief Agricultural Officer Baiju S Simon and Deputy District Manager Anish Kumar B spoke on the occasion.

The annual survey is part of the program entitled “Creation of an agency for the communication of agricultural statistics”. The objective is to collect agricultural statistics that would provide estimates of cultivated area, production and yield rate and land use pattern of the agricultural sector. State and central governments use the data for policy formation planning and development.
