SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 08: Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar, Director of the Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM), today opened a three-day workshop for Mission officials regarding the formulation of a framework for the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices in Jammu and Kashmir.

The workshop, hosted by JKRLM and a team of experts from the Union’s Ministry of Rural Development, will provide training to district program managers, overall program managers and mission livelihood coordinators.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sehrish insisted that those on the ground must develop a mechanism to encourage sustainable farming practices within the farming community.

She asked them to work in an integrated manner in order to promote women farmers into agro-entrepreneurs in addition to encouraging added value in their agricultural products.

The mission director urged officials to adopt sustainable farming practices including seed treatment, soil treatment, pre-harvest and post-harvest cultivation practices in their respective blocks.

She added that sustainable agriculture is an environmentally friendly form of agriculture and is also economically viable through which we can preserve our land resources for generations to come.

Dr Sehrish said the main objective of organizing this workshop was to address, focus, discuss and deliberate on the agro-ecological system that will be exploited in blocks through a pool of CRP resources. livelihoods that will provide last mile support to women farmers in a sustainable environment. agricultural practices and livestock management.

MD also congratulated the entire Mission team and that of the MoRD members for having defined the terms of this program.
