Farming Simulator 22 Cotton: Complete Guide – Planting, Growing, Selling, Making and More

One of the most profitable crops in the game, it’s something you just can’t live without in FS22.

Planting, harvesting and selling is ultimately the goal of the game when it comes to Farming Simulator 22. One of the best crops in Farming Sim 22 is cotton. Cotton can be used for a variety of purposes and can generate huge profits when used correctly.

If you don’t know how to do it best, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with our complete guide to harvesting cotton in FS22!

Field preparation

Before you even think about planting cotton, you need to make sure your field is ready. Depending on the settings you have enabled, you will need to do some pre-flight checks before taking off.

First of all, it is plowing. If the ‘periodic plowing’ setting is enabled, you may need to plow the field. Go to the map and if the field is red you have to plow it.

CORRECTLY PREPARED: Before doing anything you need to make sure your field is correct

Then we have the liming, because the fields must be properly limed before planting. You will need to buy lime from the store and also have a fertilizer spreader available. If the map shows your field with a light blue color, it should be limed. If you haven’t activated the “Liming Required” setting, you don’t have to worry about it.

It should be noted that none of these processes are 100% required for planting, but if you don’t, your yield will suffer when you harvest them.

There aren’t many planters who can plant cottonseed, so you will likely need to purchase a new one for this task. You can see if a planter can plant cotton seeds by looking if the cotton icon is displayed in the store. Planters like the Vaderstad Tempo L 16 are up to the task but will set you back $ 160,000.

IN YOU GO: Planting is one of the easiest steps in the cotton process

To get the seeds, you need to buy a pallet or a large bag of seeds. You cannot buy cottonseeds on their own; you have to get a variety. You will then need to cycle through the seed choices while inside your vehicle by pressing Y on PC.

If you’ve enabled seasonal growth, you’ll need to make sure you’re planting cotton at the right time of year. Cotton is best planted between February and March and is ready for harvest between October and November. If you haven’t enabled this setting, you won’t have to worry about it, plant it any time of year.

Don’t forget to fertilize your field either! This can be checked using the map, the darker the blue, the better the field is fertilized. Double fertilizing the field will give the biggest yield bonus at harvest time.

After eight months of play, your cotton will be ready to harvest. Before doing this, you will need to make sure that you do not have weeds in your field. If you haven’t activated the weeds, you can skip this step. To see if you have weeds in your field, you can see it on your map if it is highlighted in pink.

To treat weeds before they become a problem, use an Einbock mechanical weeder. If they reach a certain size, you will need to spray pesticides using a Hardi sprayer.

DIG EM UP: When the time is right, you need to have that cotton plucked

You will need the right equipment to harvest cotton. This is where you won’t have to spare any expense, as cotton requires a specific vehicle to do so. The cheapest cotton picker costs almost half a million dollars, so make sure you have the cash to spend.

Sale and manufacture

The easiest way to get rid of harvested cotton is to sell it using the in-game market. This is far from the most profitable, as the cotton can be used for something else. Yes of course these are clothes, the cotton can be used to make clothes just like in the real world.

The clothes can be made in the spinning mill and sold to the tailor. To learn more about this, see our full guide.
