Seasoned professional Jibak Dasgupta has been appointed Managing Director and CEO of the Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers Association (IMTMA), the supreme body of the machine tool industry in India.
Jibak Dasgupta, who will succeed V Anbu as Managing Director and CEO of IMTMA, is a seasoned professional in building knowledge ecosystems, formulating industrial policies, promoting R&D and technology, and the development of industrial capacities in manufacturing, innovation and entrepreneurship. Prior to assuming this new responsibility, he headed CII Naoroji Godrej Center of Manufacturing Excellence in Mumbai, CII Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Department in Delhi and CII Maharashtra State Office in Mumbai.

Jibak Dasgupta’s work has enabled the CII Naoroji Godrej Manufacturing Center of Excellence to successfully establish an Enterprise Innovation Maturity Framework to implement structured innovation processes within enterprises. This executive played a key role in the creation of the CII Industrial Innovation Awards, which annually recognize India’s best innovation-driven companies in manufacturing and services.
From 2011 to 2017, Jibak Dasgupta was associated with Global Innovation Index (GII), co-authoring various chapters of GII reports published by WIPO, INSEAD and Cornell University. He has also worked closely with the Planning Commission (NITI Aayog) for their Innovation Hub Development Program under the National Innovation Council.

An instrumentation engineer, Mr. Dasgupta holds a master’s degree in innovation management and economics from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Established in 1946, IMTMA, which now has more than 460 companies, is the supreme body of the Indian machine tool industry and plays an important role in its development through various awareness-raising measures. IMTMA has set up institutions such as Advanced Machine Tool Testing Facility and Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Center and has worked closely with the government to establish a one-of-a-kind machine tool park in Karnataka.
