Kansas City firefighters extinguish petroleum fire at manufacturing plant

Firefighters successfully extinguished a fire at a manufacturing plant in Kansas City, Missouri. The fire department responded to a hazmat call at Vance Brothers, Inc. around 3 a.m. Friday. Firefighters later discovered that an oil tank had caught fire. Since the fire was at the top of the tank, firefighters were able to drain the tank from the bottom and reduce the amount of flammable material inside. At the same time, they were taking action to prevent a nearby oil tank from catching fire. Vance Brothers, Inc. uses oil to make many of its products. Firefighters said if they hadn’t emptied the tank, it could have burned for days. Authorities have not said how the fire may have started.
