Review: Motorex Power Clean Spray

Motorex Power Clean Spray is a fast acting degreaser designed to quickly remove impacted dirt and grime. It’s also effective – more than some bike specific blends I’ve used.

In the most literal sense, you can just shake the spray can, aim and detonate. However, this is not the most cost effective way to get the most out of it. For best results, roll out the Power Clean to soften the worst, then follow with a rag or brush. I should also mention that this Motorex remover persists longer than some, thus having more impact.

Keep in mind that it will remove adhesives as well, so “helicopter tape” – and indeed, unsealed decals – can lift and peel more easily.

In common with formulas such as Weldtite Jet Blast Degreaser, Muc Off High Pressure Fast Drying Degreaser for Chains and Cassettes, and Tru-Tension Cycle Driveline Cleaner, it tends to visibly melt rather than tear down lubricants. wet or waxy.

You still need a little scrubbing to really get everything out of a dirty cassette, for example, but overall performance is good to above average for this type of spray.

In testing face to face, I found it to act faster and more efficiently than Muc-Off, and level anchoring with Weldtite’s Tru-Tension and Jet Blast. I also found a five second explosion (left for 20 seconds) sufficient to remove the chains, cassettes and rings of standard PTFE lubricants.

Speaking of PTFE, heavy-duty maintenance sprays can eventually clog cables and mechanisms, and a shot of Power Clean does better to strip it than something like GT85 (although a quick follow-up shot keeps everything smooth. and mobile).

It can handle lithium and polymer greases very well, and will also snap a disc back into place with just a few hits – in fact, it looks better than many rotor-specific mixes I’ve used.

Value

£ 11.99 is a little more than many similar aerosol degreasers. Tru-Tension Cycle Drivetrain Degreaser is bike specific at £ 10 for 500ml, Muc-Off Quick Dry Degreaser is £ 14.99 for 750ml (actually a tenner for 500ml too), and Weldtite Degreaser Jet Blast is £ 8 for 500ml.

summary

Motorex Power Clean Spray is a very useful workshop staple that works on most parts of your bike, doesn’t damage anything, and usually earns its slight premium.

Verdict

Effective and gentle degreaser for joints and other sensitive parts of the bike

If used to speed up cleaning, a little will go surprisingly far. However, as with similar products, if you hope to blitz without brushing / scrubbing, you’ll get there pretty quickly.

That’s a few pounds more than a lot, but it’s also generally more effective.
