The Trades Union Congress said it would protect the jobs and other interests of workers in Rivers State and partner with the state government for development.
State TUC Chairman Ikechukwu Onyefuru said this in Port Harcourt, after emerging unopposed at the union’s 8th Land Delegates Conference.
Onyefuru also pledged to work with all relevant stakeholders and also participate in the formulation of policies and initiatives that will help improve the lot of state workers and Nigerians in general.
In his acceptance speech, the new president said he remained loyal and committed to the national leadership of the union led by Festus Osifo.
He pledged to work with the TUC National Council to protect the interests of all Nigerian workers.
He said, “We recognized the efforts and good works of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
“We will partner to work with him to ensure that the interests of all workers in Rivers State are well represented and protected.
“We will embrace the mindset of learners which will help us understand the needs of our members in Rivers State and Nigeria in general.
“We will align ourselves with the vision of TUC President Comrade Festus Osifo. We will continue to protect the interests and well-being of workers and ensure that their jobs are protected.
“We will work with the state government led by His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Wike. He has been very successful in providing infrastructure and attracting investors to the state, where our members will work.”
