CANAAN, Maine (WABI) – A central Maine company is making better pizza from scratch.
The Good Crust, based in Skowhegan, held a grand opening of its manufacturing expansion in Canaan on Friday.

The company uses 100% Maine grain.
After making 50,000 pounds of pulp in its first year, founder Heather Kerner says the new plant will increase production by 900% and expand to other Northeast markets.
The Good Crust also provides local employment opportunities for employees facing different challenges.
“This is a first for Maine, and it’s exciting,” Governor Mills said. “There is a lot we can do if we look to ourselves, our neighbors and our friends, and work as a team to start businesses like this. We turn them on and they will catch fire.
“People from far and near all seem to say this is the best pizza they’ve ever had, and I attribute that to the flavor of the freshly ground grain that comes from the flour mill,” Heather Kerner said. , founder and CEO of The Good Crust.
