Virgin Galactic announces new spacecraft manufacturing plant in Mesa, Arizona


MESA, Arizona–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Virgin Galactic Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: SPCE) (the “Company” or “Virgin Galactic”), an aerospace and space travel company, today announced that it has signed a long-term lease for a new final assembly manufacturing facility for its next-generation Delta-class spacecraft. Located in Mesa, Greater Phoenix area adjacent to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, the facility will be capable of producing up to six spacecraft per year and will provide hundreds of highly skilled engineering jobs. and aerospace manufacturing in the region.

The Delta-class spacecraft is Virgin Galactic’s production vehicle that is designed to fly weekly, supporting the company’s goal of 400 flights per year from Spaceport America. Based on current schedules, the first of these ships is expected to begin revenue-generating payload flights in late 2025, transitioning to private astronaut flights in 2026.

The Company is currently selecting various vendors to build the main spacecraft subassemblies, which will be delivered to the new Mesa facility for final assembly. Virgin Galactic motherships will transport completed spacecraft to Spaceport America, New Mexico, for flight testing and commercial operation.
